Hot Notes

Pianist and jazz historian Andrew Oliver brings you “Hot Notes” — two hours of hot jazz, swing, blues and stomp, highlighting musicians, composers, and themes from the foundational decades of jazz — the 1920s and ’30s.

WIth exciting hot ensemble jazz, tight swing, big bands, blues singers, and more, Andrew curates a selection of classic jazz, showing that this great American music remains fresh, exciting, and relevant a century later. With a different theme each week, Hot Notes brings you the sounds of the 20s and 30s as well as history and stories about the musicians and context of the music for a holisitc, educational and viscerally satisfying listen.

“Hot Notes” is broadcast every Sunday from 8-10 AM on KMHD (89.1) in Portland, OR, and each episode is available for streaming live and for one week after broadcast at the KMHD website. “Hot Notes” is also available on PRX.
